5.1.1 Definition of users testing, Methodology and types of tests

Key learnings:

• User testing allows you to test your design by observing how users perform specific tasks.
• Users testing are from being useless in a design project. The learnings you can take out from them can be potentially extremely rich for you. Remember that after several weeks or months working on the same project, you would have lost your sight and capacity to take a step back.
• With user testing, you can uncover problems, discover new opportunities and learn about your users.
• You have several types of tests:
  • In their natural context,
  • Remotely, or
  • In guerilla testing.
• But there are limits however to users testing. As for any steps in the design thinking methodology, it will be:
  • time-consuming for you,
  • a bit artificial, and
  • won’t explore all the design features.
